Cheer competes in Division III Championship

Cheerleading had Championships this past Saturday, Oct 28. They were held at Blair High School at 2pm. This year they won fourth place out of nine teams with a score of 108.40, which was 11 points higher than last year. They were also 1.5 points away from Albert Einstein who came in third place in Division 3A. The other teams in the top three were John F. Kennedy with a score of 112.105 and Montgomery Blair with a score of 112.40.

Every school stepped it up this year and the competition was tough. We tried our best, so no matter the outcome, I am still proud of us.

— Kyna Owusu

This year the team has four seniors, led by captain Kyna Owusu. The rest of the seniors  include Sammy Ye, Gabriella Quito and Isabella Quito. The Quito twins are flyers on the team, while Owusu and Ye are bases. The cheer team has supported our sports teams since September, cheering in at least one game for each sport. The squad has implemented a lot of crowd work through their cheers this year, getting the excited student section even more engaged. The cheerleaders also create the painted banners that the football players run through when they come out onto the field.
