Physical Altercation Breaks Out at Gaithersburg and Northwest Football Game
On the evening of Friday, September 16th, a physical altercation broke out between both teams at the Gaithersburg/Northwest football game. The exact cause of the fight remains unclear. Four juveniles and one adult were charged with physical assault and various other charges according to a statement from the Gaithersburg Police Department. Police Officer, Dan Lane, stated that the charges were a result of the “fights that occurred off the field and as crowds were dispersing”. The respective principals of both Gaithersburg and Northwest High School voiced their disappointment in a joint message, stating “this disrespectful and dangerous behavior is not what we model and communicate to our students and must not be tolerated.” In light of this event, new regulations have been created and will be enforced at future athletic events in MCPS.
