Under Head Coach Andy Johnson, the Girls Varsity Tennis team has started the season 6-2, with wins against Richard Montgomery, Springbrook, Blake, Sherwood, Blair, and Quince Orchard High Schools. This includes two games they lost last year, reversing a 2-5 loss against Blair and a 1-5 loss against Quince Orchard during the 2024 season to a 4-3 and 6-1 win, respectively.
On April 10, the girls play Bethesda-Chevy Chase at John Poole Middle School, and on April 11, they take on Northwest. Matches against Wootton and Whitman come after Spring break on April 23 and 28, respectively.
Senior Ruhika Bhat, committed to playing tennis for Georgetown University, is listed as a 4-star recruit and the top recruit in Maryland, as well as a top 100 senior nationwide.
This is Coach Johnson’s ninth year coaching tennis at Poolesville, previously coaching the US Tennis Association Junior Team Tennis at Bretton Woods. He has lived in Poolesville since 1992, serving as Town Commissioner from 1998 to 2002. Both of Coach Johnson’s children graduated from PHS, with his son having played on the boys’ tennis team.
