Baseball season returns with nine seniors

Baseball season returns with nine seniors

In Coach Scott Davis’ third year as the head coach, Davis has built an unbreakable relationship with the returning seniors going into this season. Davis graduated three seniors after the 2022-23 season and will graduate nine more at the end of this season. Like all sports, adjustments must be made when losing seniors to graduation, and while being focused on this season, Davis is already looking toward the future as well.

“I’ll continue to help coach over the summer as time permits and keep developing all the players to help ease the balance of waves,” said Davis.

Davis came to Poolesville three years ago to pick up what looked to be a depleting team. Davis played Division 1 Baseball at Clemson University and has coached around Montgomery County.

Davis brought in PHS Alumni and State Champion Brady Pearre last year as an assistant coach and has made an immediate impact. Brady Pearre was one of three players to play Division 1 Baseball on the 2017 State Champion team. With Division 1 knowledge and experience from both coaches, this coaching staff has been a big help on and off the field to the players.

“Brady was a tremendous help last year. His work with the infielders showed and his demand of perfection from them.” Davis said. “[The players] all learned a lot from Brady and I am hoping to see that type of leadership on the field from those seniors.”

The Falcons have four seniors on the team who made the Pre-Season Montgomery County Top 100 Players list in Andrew Brill, Luke Pearre, Parker Pearre, and Leo Szego. Along with being a Top 100 Montgomery County Player, Pitcher Luke Pearre is also a Pre-Season All-State player.

Luke Pearre, the number one pitcher from last year and going into this year, has taken a leadership role this year trying to be a role model for the underclassmen. Luke Pearre is committed to Rhode Island University to play baseball next year, but he is still focused on this year first. Luke Pearre was coached by Davis when he was younger before either of them played or coached for the Falcons.

“The seniors have a big responsibility this year setting an example and helping develop the young guys,” Luke Pearre said.  “Having a winning mentality all year will be something all the seniors will focus on to help the underclassmen be the best they can be when they are seniors.”

Additionally, Luke Pearre has his big brother as an assistant coach on the team. Luke Pearre shared his excitement and why having his brother as a coach means so much not only to his game but also to him as a person.

“My brother coming back to coach was very special and all the guys loved it, Brady being there helped me become a better player in all aspects,” said Luke Pearre. “He knew when to give a push and he also knew when to calm me down. Making some memories together is very special to me.”

Along with all of the seniors on this year’s team, some freshmen have been playing with the team throughout the winter. Although there aren’t many freshmen, everyone is still fighting for starting spots. Freshman Reid Kimball voiced his excitement to play this year, as he has been practicing with the team throughout the fall and the winter leading up to the beginning of this season.

“I’ve known most of [the seniors] for a while,” Kimball said. “Parker and I have grown up together. I think the seniors on the team provide a good balance of encouragement and guidance while expressing their personalities.”

The Falcons start their season on March 21st, 20 days after the first day of tryouts for spring sports. Although there are many seniors who have been on the team in the past, no spots are guaranteed.
