The school community health nurse, Janet Lee, has been a falcon for 11 years. She is a licensed nurse who oversees the health technician, Mrs. Danflick. She is in charge of treating critical health conditions and creating plans and accommodations for students who might need extra help. She also attends many meetings to hear parents’ voices and concerns.
“I’ve actually been able to attend more meetings since the conference rooms are able to invite more people instead of being virtual,” Lee said.
Lee, who has two daughters, loves working with kids and strives to be someone they can talk to. Lee does not work for MCPS but for the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services (a department of the Montgomery County Government). This allows her to talk to students confidentially without having to tell counselors, parents, or teachers what was shared.
In the years that she’s been working for PHS, she’s stated she noticed positive changes.
“In my job, we’ve certainly seen diagnoses that haven’t come up in the past, and thankfully, mental health has become a bigger focus,” Lee recalls. “In the previous school, it was harder to know how to help a student with mental health issues.”
