This year, Science teacher Ms. Leslie Gum teaches Forensic Science which is the application of science to criminal and civil laws. When entering Gum’s class, or even catching a glimpse while passing by, students do a double-take as they witness what appears to be a student’s body lying facedown on the tiled floor. During the week of September 11, in room 26, students participated in a criminal investigation. In order to replicate a real crime scene, Gum uses caution tape, a dummy, and medicinal props in the classroom. This created an interactive lesson involving forensic investigation, with students being asked to play detective for the day and sketching the scene around them. Students are required to give extremely accurate data including: measurements of the room, inclusion of all evidence found and sketched, and a legend including all information in their crime scene sketches.
