On Sept. 17th, Amazon Prime Video announced that hit series The Summer I Turned Pretty is set to conclude its story with a movie installment. Despite an early confirmation, later comments by the book creator and executive producer of Summer, Jenny Han, revealed the movie was still in its pre-production phases.
In the final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty, main character Belly Conklin navigates her junior year of college while torn between her current boyfriend, Jeremiah, and her first love, Conrad. With older characters and a slightly more mature tone than the previous seasons, this year the series amassed unprecedented attention, specifically from older generations.
When asked, Jenny Han explained that the story line details are currently “still under wraps”
but will probably include older versions of Belly and Conrad’s characters.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Jenny Han said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”
So far, the movie is planned to be directed by Jenny Han and co-written by Sarah Kucserka, one of the lead writers for the show. The cast will also remain the same, with Isabel “Belly” Conklin played by Lola Tung, Conrad Fisher played by Christopher Briney, and Jeremiah Fisher played by Galvin Casalengo.
