Due to Poolesville High School’s lack of a home gym, the Booster Club has had to explore other fundraising options to raise money for the athletics program.
The lack of space at the high school meant that basketball games could not be held at Poolesville. Instead, all of the basketball games had to occur at the opponent’s school. Although many of the basketball games were still considered home games, the school’s that the games were held at still ran the events.
According to Athletic Director Ms. Regina Grubb, “There is a lot that goes into setting up and selling items at a concession stand. It was not feasible to set this up for our ‘home’ games at the away site.”
The high school’s Booster Club used to sell concessions at home basketball games as well as wrestling matches. Though wrestling matches were still held at Poolesville’s home gym, there was not enough space for concessions, eliminating that possibility of income altogether. Although the athletics program still received ticket sales from wrestling events, the main source of revenue had been from concessions.
When asked about what alternative arrangements were made, Grubb said, “We worked together to see where we could find another option to raise money to help offset what we may have made during the winter season.”
Furthermore, Poolesville High School was unable to host the Dorsey Duals Wrestling tournament, which brought in many fans and funds for athletics as well.
According to the Booster Club President, Danielle Anderson, “We had to get creative and come up with new ideas like the Winter Prize raffle, and we also brought back the Personalized Paver Fundraiser.”
Currently, the main ways that the Booster Club is raising money for the athletic program is through the Mulch sale, Schoolfundr donations, and the two new ideas, the Winter Prize raffle and the Personalized Paver fundraiser.
The Personalized Paver fundraiser consists of purchasing a personalized brick to be installed permanently at the stadium to recognize students, alumni, and businesses in Poolesville. The orders for customized brick pavers are being accepted until April 30th and can be ordered through the Booster Club’s website.
The Winter Prize Raffle fundraiser results were drawn on Saturday, March 15, and people had the opportunity to enter up to 10 times for $25. The Mulch Sale delivery date was also March 15th, with prices being either $6.00 or $6.25 per bag, depending on the mulch type.
One concern held by the Booster Club was whether or not fans would travel to games to support the Falcon’s. Fortunately, senior night for both Boys and Girls Basketball, as well as Poms and Cheer, was a huge success. Many fans showed up at Northwest High School to celebrate Poolesville’s senior athletes.
