Montgomery County Public Libraries are hosting multiple youth events. Five in-person events are happening on Wednesdays starting in January and ending in May, including “Unpacking Racism Workshop for Black History Month” on February 5th, “Sip and Paint” on March 3, and “Teen Book Club” on May 28th. The events are for teens ages 13-19 and take place at Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library from 4-6 pm in the third-floor meeting room. Drop-ins are welcome, and snacks and Student Service Learning (SSL) hours will be provided. If students need accommodations to participate in any of these events, they can contact 240-773-9420 at least five days before the scheduled event.
Additionally, it’s hosting “MoComCon,” a two-day event from March 22-23, 2025. The first day will be held at the Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown from 1-5 pm, and the second day will be held at the Germantown Library from 10-2 pm.
The MoComCon features art and essay contests for comics, graphic novels, and fandoms. MCPL invites children, teens, and adults to create art featuring their favorite fandom or to create an essay to “sell your fandom.” Entries for these contests are due February 24, and the winner will be announced prior to the events.
A cosplay contest will also take place on March 22. Entry forms for this event are located at the Black Rock Center. While this event is only for children over 13, younger children are invited to a cosplay/costume on March 23 at 1:30 pm.
