Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills Quarterback broke the NFL record for total touchdowns when they beat the 49ers on December 1st. Former Bills Quarterback, Jim Kelly, previously held the record at 244 career touchdowns. Allen matched Kelly in week 11 against the Chiefs. However, this tie was broken when Allen passed to Mack Hollins in the endzone just before the end of the first half.
They played in 6 inches of continually falling snow, creating a cold and unpredictable atmosphere. During the game, Allen completed 13-of-17 pass attempts for 148 yards, even barely playing in the fourth quarter. While his efforts fell short of leading the Bills past the Los Angeles Rams, Allen set multiple NFL records in the process.
As a high school football player, Allen was not scouted by college football scouts and did not receive any scholarship offers. He enrolled at Reedley College where, at the end of his first season there, he contacted every Football Bowl Subdivision coach and coordinator asking to be their school’s quarterback. Only two schools responded, one being the University of Wyoming, where he enrolled. Allen helped Wyoming win the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in 2017 and was named Most Valuable Player.
He was drafted for the Bills in 2018, where he started slow due to his issues with accuracy. However, he practiced rigorously and had a breakout season in 2020. Allen’s 69.2% completion rate marked the biggest improvement over three years of any NFL quarterback in history.
Josh Allen has 26 games played with 3+ passing touchdowns throughout his career. After his record-breaking game, he was named Offensive Player of the Week. In total, Allen finished the day with 51.88 fantasy football points, a historic peak for a quarterback in a single game.
